Joseph Romm, Ph.D.

The Executive Director of the Center for Energy and Climate Solutions, he has authored The National Commission on Energy Policy’s Report “The Car and the Fuel of the Future” (July 2004) and The Hype About Hydrogen: Fact and Fiction in the Race to Save the Climate, which was named one of the best science and technology books of 2004 by Library Journal.

Joseph served as an acting Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in 1997 and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary from 1995 to 1998. He helped manage the largest program in the world that works with businesses to develop and use advanced transportation and clean energy technologies, including $1 Billion aimed at hybrid vehicles, electric batteries, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, renewable energy, distributed generation, energy efficiency and bio fuels. He has written and lectured widely on these topics and recently released an acclaimed book, Hell and High Water, on the scope of the climate change problem and promising solutions.
